The airport in Saransk is the main airport in the Republic of Mordovia, located in the vicinity of the village of Lukhovka. The runway of the airline, 2, 8 kilometers long, is reinforced with concrete and equipped with a modern light-signaling and air navigation system. History
The beginning of aviation in Saransk falls on the second half of the 40s of the last century. At that time, the military airfield Lambir was used for civil air travel.

Development prospects
Due to the fact that in 2018 Mordovia is planning to host the World Cup, the airport in Saransk began a large-scale reconstruction. In the future, its implementation is primarily about increasing the runway to the size of 3.2 km x 45m and its technical re-equipment. This will allow the airline to receive aircraft such as Boeing 737-800 and Airbus A320. It is also planned to expand the apron and build a road to the airport with a length of 900 meters. These measures will increase the airport's capacity to 1,300 passengers per hour.
It is planned to build two mini-hotels with 50 beds near the airport.
