Not the most mountainous country, Latvia, nevertheless, boasts good ski resorts, where the infrastructure is well organized, and the condition of the tracks is highly prepared. Alpine skiing in Latvia is one of the most popular winter activities, and therefore special attention is paid to keeping the resorts in order.
Equipment and tracks
Sigulda is rightfully considered the most popular ski resort in Latvia. It is located in the Gauja National Park, and its tracks are a combination of well-groomed, quality and excellent technical support. The Sigulda City Trail stretches for 350 meters, and its main feature is illumination, which makes it possible to arrange night skiing. There is a funpark for snowboarders. "Kordestrassa" in Sigulda - a paradise for extreme lovers and pros - stretches for 275 meters and especially attracts those who prefer challenging skiing. Reinätrasse not only offers downhill skiing, but also inflatable tobogganing and a snow park with entertainment and attractions for children. In Sigulda, you can rent ski and snowboard equipment, and the local school instructors will help you master the equipment and teach you how to take the first steps on the slope.
The tracks in the Gauja valley are distinguished by particularly steep slopes. For example, agarkalns resort has several slopes to its credit, the most difficult of which is Grindo mountain, four hundred meters high. For snowboarding, this Latvian ski resort has a funpark with jumps and a boardercross track. Bailey Base in Valmiera is a wonderful place for skiers and fans of freeriding on the board. Here you can stay overnight with great comfort - the hotel invites you to take a steam bath and taste the best local cuisine.
The Swedish Hat Resort offers cozy lodging houses and well-equipped tracks. You can dine in local cafes, and get to the start point using modern lifts. Only 120 kilometers from Riga and athletes find themselves in the town of Sabile, where all conditions have been created for spending a winter vacation in a "Swedish hat". For those who have not yet mastered skiing, the resort has the opportunity to go sledging or take exciting walks in the picturesque surroundings.
