The flag of the Kyrgyz Republic, approved in 1992, is the state symbol of the country.

Description and proportions of the flag of Kyrgyzstan

The rectangular shape of the flag of Kyrgyzstan is traditional for the vast majority of modern flags of the states of the world. The fabric has a length to width ratio of 5: 3. The main field of the flag of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan is bright red. In the center of the panel there is an image of a circular solar disk, around which golden rays radiate. There are forty of them and they are equidistant from each other.

Inside the solar disk there is a symbolic image of a yurt tundyuk. This device is a grate with a round rim and is intended to illuminate the traditional dwelling of the peoples of Kyrgyzstan and remove smoke from the hearth. Tyundyuk is depicted in the form of six intersecting red stripes, three on each side.

The diameter of the solar disk is related to the width of the panel as 3: 5, and the diameter of the stylized tundyuk is equal to half the diameter of the solar disk.

History of the flag of Kyrgyzstan

Before the declaration of independence in 1992, Kyrgyzstan was part of the USSR and was called the Kirghiz SSR. The flag of the republic was a red cloth, in the middle of which there was a horizontal blue stripe. Its width was one third of the width of the flag. In the middle of the blue stripe, there was a narrow white stripe, dividing the entire flag into two equal parts. In the upper corner at the flagpole were the state symbols of the USSR - the hammer and sickle and the five-pointed star, applied in yellow.

The team of authors of the new flag, approved on March 3, 1992, consisted of five people. The artists tried to embody in their project several values that are important for the people. The red color of the flag of Kyrgyzstan embodies the valor and courage of the best sons of the country. This was exactly the flag of Manas - the hero of the ancient Kirgiz epic, who united the country. The sun symbolizes wealth and peace. The tyunduk of the traditional yurt is a symbol of the father's house, which is the land of Kyrgyzstan for each of its citizens. Forty rays of the sun remind of the tribes that inhabited the Kyrgyz land in the old days and united into a single state.

In 2011, one of the deputies of the country's Parliament made a proposal to change the appearance of the state flag of Kyrgyzstan. In his opinion, the tundyuk depicted on it is highly distorted and the symbol does not correspond to reality. The question is still open, and the current flag of Kyrgyzstan is still valid.
