Description of the attraction

The mass grave of the Bulgarian national heroes - fighters for the country's freedom from Turkish invaders is located in the city of Ruse. The pantheon of figures of the Bulgarian National Revival was opened on 1978-28-02 on the day of the centenary of the liberation of Bulgaria from the long-standing yoke of the Ottomans. Built on the site of the destroyed Church of All Saints.

The area of the monument is 4456 square meters. A large number of tombstones and statues are installed inside, an eternal flame burns under a dome covered with gilding.

The Pantheon contains 39 graves of the most famous devotees of the liberation movement. Among them are Atanas Uzunov, Olimpiy Panov, Toma Kirdiev, Lyuben Karavelov, Zakhary Stoyanov, Angel Kynchev, Stefan Karadzha, Nikola Obretenov. Here is the grave of Tonka Obretenova, which has long acquired mythological features and is the symbolic mother of Bulgarian freedom. 453 names of revolutionaries and militias are carved on the walls. In addition, the remains of the first teachers of Ruse, who were engaged in educational and scientific activities in the 18-19 centuries, are buried here, among them Tsanya Ginchev, Daskal Dragni, Daskal Toni, Nil Izvorov, Dragan Tsankov.

A chapel was erected under the Pantheon in 2000. There is also a museum exposition presenting documentary monuments of that time. Those interested can buy souvenirs and information materials.

The Pantheon of Heroes of the National Revival is part of the cultural and historical memory of the city and is included in the list of one hundred national Bulgarian tourist sites. It is located on the Renaissance Square.
