Description of the attraction

The ensemble of the Senate Square is decorated with the symbol of Helsinki - the Lutheran Cathedral, formerly Nikolsky Cathedral. The central dome and sculptures of the 12 apostles rise above the church. This construction was started by Engel, and another German architect, Ernst, Lormand, supplemented it with four turrets with domes and gilded crosses. The annexes do not harmonize very well with the overall austere style of the building. Inside the room, decorated in austere Protestant style, the statues of Luther, Melanchthon and Michael Agricola attract attention.

During the construction of the cathedral, a high cruciform crypt was formed below. At the present time, the crypt has been converted into a room for exhibitions, concerts and meetings. In summer, a cozy cafe is located in the crypt.
