Description of the attraction

Laertes is a picturesque village located twenty kilometers from Alanya and one hundred and twenty kilometers from the airport of Antalya. This historic city, which, according to legend, was founded by Claudius, is located at the foot of one of the highest peaks in the vicinity of Mount Jebel Iresh at an altitude of 900 meters and is surrounded by an abyss from the west, east and south.

The name of this city means "Great Ruins" or "Great Church". On the site of the ruins, also referred to as the "Ruins of Ancient Larta", there were once churches, baths, wells, a small theater-stadium, streets with columns, temples, baths, cisterns and various residential and sacral buildings. On the south side of the stadium are the remains of a church with an apse and naves, which have preserved traces of light blue and red colored frescoes in the interior. Also here you can find a huge number of inscriptions and figurines, which depicted the head of an ox and the claws of an eagle. All these remains of ancient civilizations unwittingly carry deep into history. If you believe the remaining inscriptions, the state located in this area experienced its dawn somewhere between the first and third centuries. Among the temples built here, those that belonged to Caesar, Zeus and Apollo have survived to this day.

The ruins of Laertes represent a large accumulation of monuments from the Byzantine and Roman periods, which attract the attention of a huge number of tourists who are not indifferent to history and who want to touch the ancient world. The road that leads to this town passes through banana orchards, which gives the town a special flavor. Once here, many are surprised at how harmoniously modern buildings and ancient ruins are intertwined here.

They interfered with everything. The name is not Leartis, but Laertes. 10 km not from Alanya, but from Mahmutlar (which, in turn, is 10 kilometers from Alanya).

Show all text Have mixed everything. The name is not Leartis, but Laertes. 10 km not from Alanya, but from Mahmutlar (which, in turn, is 10 kilometers from Alanya).

Get there like this:

Drive along the Antalya-Mersin yolu highway (main along the sea) to the village of Mahmutlar and turn to Karapinar, Taskent, then go up the mountains following signs for Laertis. The ruins themselves are easy to miss: a couple of kilometers after the exit onto the dirt road, there will be an exit to the left towards the house, Laertes is located behind this house, it is almost invisible from the road. You have to be careful with the time: there are gates on the road that are closed in the evening - if you stay with the car, you can get into a trap.

If you go further along the road, you will see beautiful sky-high views, especially impressive at sunset.

Please update the information so that others do not waste time searching. If suddenly you meant something else, all the more specify where this place is, which none of the locals knows.
