Description of the attraction
The Kharkov Historical Museum is considered one of the most significant museums in Ukraine. It was founded in 1920 as the Skovoroda Museum of Sloboda Ukraine. Initially, the museum was located in the premises of the former Zyrardovskaya manufactory, on the street. University. But after a while, due to the large number of exhibits, the museum rented the bishop's house of the Intercession Monastery.
The Historical Museum of Kharkov is a regional scientific and methodological center, numbering almost 250 thousand exhibits. Back in 1940, it was recognized as one of the largest in the entire territory of the Ukrainian SSR. During the war, the building and collections of the museum were damaged. However, in the post-war period, a large-scale reconstruction was carried out. And now the history of the past can be seen already at the entrance to the museum, since it is guarded by tanks and various artillery pieces that brought victory to the Soviet army.
The modern Kharkiv Museum is divided into 4 sections: primitive society, feudalism, capitalism and Soviet times, and its collection consists of archaeological, ethnographic and numismatic collections, as well as an extensive book and documentary fund, photographs, periodicals, collections of flags, weapons, tableware, etc. dr.
Scientific conferences, various thematic evenings, meetings with famous people and other interesting events are held on the basis of the expositions of the Kharkov Historical Museum.
The majestic building of the Kharkov Museum is a real decoration of Universitetskaya Street, which successfully complements the architectural ensemble of the city center.
