Description of the attraction

One of the attractions of the modern city of Saratov is the new monument to the "Saratov accordion". It is located at the beginning of Kirov Avenue, opposite the Pioner cinema, in close proximity to the conservatory and the Lyra fountain.

Installed in September 2009, a bronze figure of a cheerful accordion player in a Russian shirt, cap and boots, sitting on a bench, was presented to the Saratov people for the city day. The author and sculptor of the landmark is V. Palmin. The opening was solemn and the participation of the ensemble "Saratov Harmonica" and other creative teams turned the celebration of the city day into real Russian festivities. The monument, which is the hallmark of the city, very soon fell in love not only with the locals, but also with the guests of the city, taking with them a photo with a bronze Saratov accordion player.

The mention of the Saratov accordion with bells, distinguished by a special sound and a peculiar timbre, first appeared in 1866 in the newspaper Saratov reference sheet, which described the story of the request of the steamer passengers to come closer to the shore, “in order to better hear the gentlemen playing the harmonica”.

The first Saratov harmonicas were made by artels until 1870, when Korelin's workshop was opened on Nikolskaya (now Radishcheva street). The uniqueness and sound of Korelin's instruments contributed to his inclusion in the list of the best artisans of that time, and people kindly began to call him “Stradivari of the Saratov accordion”. There are almost no instruments that were released more than 150 years ago and made Saratov famous all over the world, but you can hear them playing twice a day (at noon and 6 pm) near the monument to the Saratov accordion.
