Description of the attraction

The Bogatyr Caves, located in the town of Goryachy Klyuch, are a popular tourist attraction. They are a favorite place for many tourists as there are many legends about these caves. The uniqueness of the Bogatyr Caves lies in the fact that they were created by human hands in a solid massif of sandstone. Based on this, there is more than one theory about their origin. According to one of them, the caves were dug in the XVIII century. people who were threatened with death for various crimes, since according to the Adyghe customs, immediately after the sentencing, the criminals were allowed to flee from justice, without the right to return to their homes.

But the most popular version is the one that deals with the heroes who lived in these caves in ancient times and defended the local lands. It is not possible to find out about the reliable origin of the caves, since no research has been carried out in them. Despite this, the Bogatyr Caves remain the favorite attraction of the resort.

The tourist route to the caves starts from the railway station "Valley of Charm", then you should walk about 100 m towards the city, then turn onto a small path. Walking along the trail 600 m, you can see the first cave with a branched system of corridors. The corridors are no more than 6 m long, each of which ends in a small closet.

A little to the right of the first cave is the second cave. This cave is much smaller than the first and has only two rooms, one of which has a window and a gap in the ceiling. Thanks to this clearance, you can reach the crest of the ridge. The caves are hewn out of sandstone and covered with various inscriptions.

If you go higher along the path, you can get to a large platform, from which a wonderful panorama of the nearest rivers and valleys opens.

It is also worth noting that during the Second World War, these places acted as the strongholds of the Soviet troops. At the top of the mountain there is an obelisk dedicated to the brave soldiers who in 1942 were able to stop the advance of the fascist army.
