Description of the attraction
The memorial complex "Line of Defense", located on the eastern shore of the Tsemesskaya Bay near the cement plant "October", is one of the sights of Novorossiysk. The monument-ensemble was opened in September 1978, to the 35th anniversary of the defeat of the German troops at the walls of the city. Architects Kananin R. G., Belopolsky Ya. B., Khavin V. I. worked on the creation of the memorial. and sculptor Tsigal V. E.
The memorial complex "Line of Defense" is dedicated to the events that took place in the summer and autumn of 1942, when Hitler's troops rushed to the Caucasus to get to the oil rigs of Grozny and Baku. This place for the creation of the monument-ensemble "Line of Defense" was not chosen by chance, it was here, between the cement plants "Proletary" and "October", that the fascist troops were stopped by our soldiers who stood to death.
The Novorossiysk Memorial "Line of Defense" is a reinforced concrete structure located above the road itself. All the awards of Novorossiysk are depicted on one side of the monument. So in 1966 the city was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the first degree, in 1973, on the 30th anniversary of the defeat of the German troops at the walls of the city, Novorossiysk was awarded the title "Hero City".
In the center of the monument there is a map with a marked line of defense of 1942-1943. On the other side of the monument, you can see four strong hands, which are tightly gripping machine guns. On a support made of granite, the names of the formations and units that took part in the defense, and then in the assault on the city of Novorossiysk, were carved.
On a separate pedestal of the memorial complex "Line of Defense" there are memorial plaques with inscriptions. On the site near the memorial there is a riddled freight car - this is a kind of monument with more than 10 thousand holes from bullets, mines and shells.
