Description of the attraction
St. Oswald's Church is located in the heart of the Tyrolean ski resort of Seefeld, just across the street from the city's main station. This temple, like the other, more distant church of the Holy Cross, is especially popular among pilgrims, since its construction itself became possible only thanks to divine intervention.
According to legend, in 1384, during the sacrament of the Eucharist, a miracle happened - the communion bread began to bleed. A stream of pilgrims immediately poured into Seefeld, and in 1423, by order of the ruler of Tyrol, Frederick IV, it was decided to build a new, large church, the construction of which was completed 8 years later. The temple was consecrated in honor of St. Oswald.
Despite numerous reconstructions in 1474 and 1604, the church has retained its authentic appearance. It is designed in the late Gothic architectural style and is distinguished by octagonal choirs, elongated narrow windows, a steep sloping roof and an outstanding high bell tower topped with a pointed spire painted red.
As for the interior layout, the choir, which is located one level above the main nave, stands out here. The interior of the church is amazing, moreover, it was possible to completely preserve the ancient Gothic frescoes of the 15th-16th centuries. Also worth noting is the lancet ceilings, painted in the years 1465-1666.
In the northern part of the second level of the choir, there is a sacristy, as well as a small chapel of the Blood of Christ, equipped a little later - in 1574. And in the 18th century, this modest room was richly decorated with exquisite stucco molding.
An ancient city cemetery was laid out around the church of St. Oswald, which was used for the burial of local residents even before 1954. It, like the church itself, is considered an architectural monument and is under state protection.
