Description of the attraction
The Kostroma Regional Puppet Theater was founded in 1936 by a troupe of enthusiasts, consisting of six people. They did everything with their own hands: props, decorations, and dolls. The theater did not have a permanent building. The theater huddled in the House of Pioneers, then in the Teacher's House, then in the Orlyonok cinema. In 1946, the puppet theater received its permanent residence. For the needs of the puppet theater, the building of the former people's reading room named after A. N. The initiator of the construction was the inspector of public schools M. E. Mikiforov.
During the First World War, this building housed a hospital. And in the 1920s, a drama studio of Kostroma operated here, which was organized by the prominent Soviet director A. D. Popov. Later it was transformed into the Youth Theater. In the early 1980s, the building was reconstructed according to the project of I. Yu. Dashevsky.
In 1937, the post of chief director of the puppet theater was offered to A. G. Skripnichenko, a graduate of the Odessa Theater Studio. She headed the theater for nearly thirty years. She became not only the main director of the theater, but also a good teacher, organizer, and actress. The war years became especially difficult for the theater, then the puppeteers had to live in a barracks position. In the evenings they rehearsed, and during the day they showed performances in hospitals and military units. The troupe transported all the equipment on sleds in winter and on carts in summer. The creative staff of the theater has noticeably decreased - many artists went to the front, some of them never returned. Those who stayed in the city worked with great dedication and creative energy, putting out about eight performances a year.
