Description of the attraction
The National Circus of Ukraine began its history back in 1961. It is undoubtedly a real center of circus art throughout Ukraine, of national and international significance. The greatest circus artists, whose names have forever entered the annals of the world, performed within its walls. In 1998, the circus was awarded the title of the National Circus of Ukraine, and as a result of such a solid status, it was unanimously recognized as the main circus in Ukraine.
The circus building also deserves special attention, as it is the largest domed building in all of Kiev. And the prehistory of its occurrence is generally amazing. Until 1875, not a single stationary circus existed in Kiev, while in the capital only temporary tent circuses performed periodically, giving performances only for a few months, and then disappearing. And in the distant 1868, Auguste Bergonier, a Frenchman, acquired a land plot in the center of Kiev and received permission from the City Council to create a stationary stone circus here. He was a real fan of circus art and wanted to share his hobby with all residents and guests of the capital. This is how the history of the formation of the National Circus began.
Today, the circus repertoire is a kind of experimental base, thanks to which stunning thematic programs, numbers and attractions are created at the level of classical samples. The high professionalism and skill of the circus collective is recognized by many and their numbers have become the property of not only Ukraine, but the whole world. The artistic director of the National Circus of Ukraine is Volodymyr Shevchenko, a troupe of artists of different circus trends, its own ballet and one of the best musical groups work in the circus on a permanent basis.
