Description of the attraction
The Sochi Circus is one of the best cultural and entertainment institutions in Russia, located in the Khostinsky district of the resort city of Sochi, at the intersection of Kurortny and Pushkin avenues, next to the Arboretum.
A significant contribution to the organization of the Sochi circus was made by the first director S. A. Pishchik and a group of architects led by Yu. L. Schwarzbrein, thanks to which residents and guests of the city received this beautiful building as a gift. The famous Russian People's Artist Yury Nikulin took part in laying the foundation of the building.
The grand opening of the Sochi State Circus took place in May 1971. The circus building has a large auditorium for 2 thousand seats, as well as spacious lobbies and a foyer.
Of the artists who shone on the arena of the Sochi circus, it is possible to make up more than one “first circus team”. Various famous artists performed at the arena of the Sochi circus, including V. Filatov, Y. Durov, M. Rumyantsev, O. Popov, Y. Nikulin, Y. Kuklachev, I. Kantemirov, M. Zapashny, I. Kio, A. Butaev, Y. Ermakov, Y. Averino, L. Zykina, V. Doveiko, L. Gurchenko, I. Kobzon, V. Leontiev, V. Malezhik, V. Dobrynin, A. Abdulova and other theater and film actors. Many artists from Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, Mongolia, Germany, Yugoslavia and China also performed in the circus arena.
For more than 20 years, the director of the Sochi circus was A. T. Belyaevsky (who is on a well-deserved rest), who, together with the chief director E. A. Karpmansky, put all their strength and love into this circus. Since 1992, People's Artist of the USSR and Russia M. M. Zapashny. Today the director of the cultural and entertainment institution is A. Kh. Pogosov.
