Description of the attraction

Sydney Luna Park is an amusement park located on the north shore of Sydney Harbor at Milsons Point.

The first amusement park was built near the famous Harbor Bridge in 1935 - attractions for it were brought from Luna Park in the town of Glenelg in South Australia. At first, the park was open only 9 months a year, closing for the winter season. During the Second World War, this place was extremely popular with the soldiers of the Australian and American armies. In the 1950s, new attractions were brought here from Holland, the USA, Germany and England, and in the 1970s the slogan of the park became the phrase "The place where happiness lives."

In June 1979, a terrible tragedy occurred in Luna Park - a fire broke out on the Ghost Train attraction, which killed 6 children and one adult. The park was immediately closed. Most of the rides were dismantled, and a new park was built in their place in 1982. Then the park was closed several more times in connection with various repair and restoration work. The last opening of the park took place in 2004 - then, despite the rain, several thousand people came here, and in the first two months of its work, the park was visited by more than 200 thousand people!

Today, Sydney Amusement Park is one of only two government-protected amusement parks in the world, and several buildings on its territory are listed as National Treasures for Australia and New South Wales.
