Description of the attraction
The building of the Saratov State Conservatory was built in 1902 by the St. Petersburg architect A. Yu. Yang for a music school. In 1912, under the leadership of the architect S. A. The Kallistratov building was reconstructed and supplemented with elements of South German Gothic. And in October of the same year, the opening of the first in the province and the third in Russia conservatory, named in honor of the heir to the throne - the Saratov (Imperial Russian Musical Society) Alekseevsky Conservatory.
On October 26, 1917, at a meeting of the Saratov Council held at the conservatory, Soviet power was proclaimed. In 1935, the conservatory was renamed in honor of the great singer Leonid Vitalievich Sobinov.
In the fall of 1941, after the evacuation of the Moscow Conservatory to Saratov, both conservatories were temporarily merged, receiving the new name of P. I. Tchaikovsky and existed in this form until 1943, making a huge contribution to the musical education of the city's residents.
In the fall of 1985, an organ made by the German firm Sauer sounded in the Great Hall of the Conservatory. The richness of the interior and excellent acoustics reign in the Small Hall, intended for chamber music.
Many talented musicians of world renown performed within the walls of the Saratov Conservatory, such as: S. Richter, M. Rostropovich, V. Sofronitsky, golden voices of Russia: L. Sobinov and F. Shalyapin, came with concerts: S. Prokofiev, S. Rachmaninov, A. Arensky, A. Glazunov.
The neo-Gothic building of the Saratov Conservatory, decorated with singing chimeras, rosette windows with images of owls and bunches of grapes, is now regarded as a monument of the history and artistic culture of the city.
