Description of the attraction

Bangladesh National Zoo is located in Dhaka, in Mirpur district. This is one of the most popular places where locals and foreign tourists enjoy their time.

Established in 1974, the National Zoo has been improving for many years and is considered one of the best zoos in Bangladesh, receiving hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. More than 2,000 animals of 165 species live here.

Visitors to the National Zoo will be delighted by open animal enclosures that mimic the natural environment. They are designed to make the animals feel at home, and visitors can see the animals up close. Of course, the predators are isolated behind bars, but the overall appearance of the zoo, with its shady paths and two large calm lakes inhabited by migratory waterbirds every winter, gives the impression that you are in the wild and not in one of the busiest cities in Bangladesh. …

The zoo's mammals department includes elephants, cheetahs, rhinos, zebras, otters, hyenas, deer, giraffes, impalas, black bears, tapirs, hippos, lions. There are also many different species of monkeys, chimpanzees and baboons. The majestic Royal Bengal Tigers are a highlight of the zoo, which is not surprising since they are the national symbol of Bangladesh.

Many animals, including zebras, giraffes, impalas, hippos, waterbirds and rhinos, have been brought to Bangladesh from South Africa and have adapted well to their new surroundings. The hippopotamus enclosure includes a large lake covered with aquatic vegetation, so the hippos seem quite content with life.

The aviaries contain over 1,500 specimens of 90 species of birds, and visitors can see peacocks, rhea, African gray parrots, cassowaries, emus, not to mention finches, blackbirds, owls, eagles and many more. A crocodile hall was opened, in which there are always a lot of tourists, as well as a serpentarium. The zoo has a museum of the history of the institution and the animals it contains, and there are many information stands throughout the area.

The Dhaka Zoo is not only an entertainment but also an educational center as visitors learn more about the animals found in Bangladesh and other parts of the world.
