Description of the attraction
In the city of Murmansk, on Profsoyuzov Street, there is a monument dedicated to builders who gave their lives during the Great Patriotic War. The opening of the monument took place in October 1974, the author of which was the famous sculptor Glukhikh G. A. in collaboration with architect Taxis F. S.
The monumental composition is a stylized pillbox, which in some way is faced with dark red granite. On the left side of the monument there is a bas-relief depicting two soldiers, and on the opposite side of the edge there is an engraved inscription dedicated to the memory of builders who fell during the war. In the upper part of the granite monument, three bayonets are fixed, which bear a symbolic meaning in the form of the incredible unbending resilience of the Russian people to Victory. It was decided to erect the monument on a concrete base, which was lined with granite blocks around the entire perimeter. The stone slabs covering the monument have a slightly pinkish tint and are elegantly complemented by flower beds that adorn the obelisk with unpretentious daisies from year to year in summer. The end of the ensemble is made in the form of a large granite bench. The general view of the monumental structure fits especially well into a small cozy park. The monument is framed from almost all sides by numerous shrubs and trees, which has become a kind of decorative decoration.
The location for the monument was not chosen by chance. According to the stories of the veterans of the Great Patriotic War, in this place in 1941 volunteer detachments were formed - workers of the famous trust called "Murman-Rybstroy", as well as other various construction organizations of the city of Murmansk, who were subsequently sent to the front. The largest number of such organizations were defeated, desperately defending their homeland from the invasion of the Nazis. Thirty years later, in a small quiet park, on the famous Profsoyuzov Street, a large granite stone was installed with a short inscription telling about the upcoming installation of a memorial monument. The authors of the project are Glukhikh G. A. and Taxis F. S. - they were able to develop more than one version of the type of monument, after which the most suitable in their opinion was chosen, which was also approved by the society. Some of the funds necessary for the construction of the monument were collected by the city builders themselves, most of whom worked for free on the construction of the monumental monument to military builders.
The solemn ceremony of opening the obelisk took place on October 12, 1974 - it was on this day that festivities were held in Murmansk dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the complete defeat of the fascist troops in the Russian Arctic. On this day, an unprecedented number of Murmansk residents gathered on the streets of the city, especially employees of various divisions of "Glavmurmanskstroy". At the meeting, one of the Murmansk builders - Hero of Socialist Labor - A. Ya. Safronov, who headed the team of carpenters, spoke before the gathered people among the speakers. At one point, the veil was thrown off the new monument, and for the first time the monument was presented to the inhabitants of the city. On this day, a huge number of wreaths and flowers were laid at the foot of the monument in memory of the terrible event.
Today, for several decades, the famous monument to the fallen military builders has been decorating the hero city of Murmansk. It is clear that at the moment the construction industry of the city of Murmansk has become a kind of relic, but nevertheless, many veterans come here on their professional holiday and on other holidays. A large number of flowers and wreaths often lie near the monument from those people who remember their construction work, thanks to which the formation of the famous city took place. Veterans still remember all their comrades and friends who died in the terrible years for our country.
