Description of the attraction

The Mound of Glory of Adam Mitskevich is a unique man-made monument of the 20th century. This mound was poured with their own hands by people who worship the work of the genius poet.

After the city of Novogrudok, the birthplace of the national poet Adam Mickiewicz, became part of Poland, the Mickiewicz committee was organized, which was engaged in the study of creativity and the creation of a house-museum.

The first to propose to build a mound was the chairman of the Mitskevichsky Committee, Professor Stanislav Voitsekhovsky. He remembered the words of Adam Mickiewicz, who once said: "… for" Pan Tadeusz "people from Novogrudok should erect a monument to me on the city square in Novogrudok".

The construction of the mound was done in the same way as it was done in ancient times - everyone could put his own contribution - a handful of earth or a stone and put it in the place of the future mound. Some people who could not come to Novogrudok sent land by mail. On the parcel they wrote: “Novogrudok. Land for perpetuating the memory of Adam Mitskevich”.

Construction began on May 27, 1924 and lasted until June 28, 1931. In the last summer of construction, when many wanted to take part and bring land, each participant was given a commemorative sign. On the day of the 75th anniversary of the death of Mickiewicz, after a solemn mass in the church where the poet was baptized, the monument was unveiled.

At the foot of the Mound of Glory, there is a memorial stone dedicated to Adam Mitskevich. You can climb the high mound using a specially equipped ladder. A magnificent view of Novogrudok opens from its top. It is believed that this is the highest point in Belarus. At the foot of the hill begins a picturesque park, equipped with resting places, benches where you can sit and admire the magnificent landscape.
