Description of the attraction
Volcano Pua Catiki is an extinct shield volcano on Easter Island. Its height is only 370 meters above sea level. It is one of the three volcanoes of this island and is located in its eastern part. The Pua Catici volcano is the lowest of them. All three extinct volcanoes of the island form a triangle when viewed from a bird's eye view. From the north, east and south, the Pua Catici volcano is surrounded by the ocean, and on the southwest side is the Rano Raraku volcano.
The last volcanic eruption took place over 230 thousand years ago.
The soil of this area is reddish in color. Due to erosion, the rocks are very high and it is dangerous to walk along their edges. There is less vegetation and there is no possibility of archaeological excavations.
There is a statement that if you connect all three volcanoes with straight lines on the map of the island, you get a perfect isosceles triangle. You can walk or drive along the dirt road from Hanga Roa and end up at Hanga Pico, a seaport on the north coast of the island.
