Description of the attraction
The monument to Beaver, 1, 7 meters high, was erected in the Belarusian city of Bobruisk in 2006. The author of the project was the winner of the competition, sculptor Vladimir Gavrilenko.
The installation of the bronze Beaver was timed to coincide with the opening of the Dozhinki festival in Bobruisk. The Republic of Belarus is actively reviving ancient Slavic traditions. The ancient harvest festival has acquired the status of a state one. The conditions for the festival are putting in order and restoration of the city from the central square to the last courtyard.
The Bronze Beaver has become the hallmark of Bobruisk. He stands at the intersection of Sotsialisticheskaya and Karl Marx streets, smiling good-naturedly and raising his hat in a welcoming gesture, not at all embarrassed by his imposing belly. The beaver is dressed with the true chic of a wealthy Bobruisk bourgeois of the early 20th century. Vladimir Gavrilenko says that in order to "dress" his hero, he had to revise many fashion magazines of that time.
The Beaver Monument immediately became a favorite attraction of Bobruisk residents and visiting tourists. They willingly take pictures with Beaver, appoint dates around him. The monument has already become a lucky talisman and an urban legend. They say that if you rub the watch chain on his belly or touch the Beaver's nose, then there will be all kinds of luck and happiness.
Few people know that Bobruisk presented Moscow with a similar statue of the Beaver. The Moscow sister city is imposingly sprawled on a bench in the area of Sokolniki Park. Unfortunately, the Beaver statue, donated to Muscovites, was stolen.
