Description of the attraction

For many of us, the laws of physics have remained a mystery with seven seals. Very few people can clearly and clearly explain what a capacitor, induction, and electricity are. In order to simply and amusingly explain complex physical phenomena and laws, the LabyrinthUm museum was created in St. Petersburg. This museum appeared recently, on December 25, 2010 in the city center, on the Petrogradskaya side. This is the first interactive museum in Russia. It got its name "interactive" due to the fact that it uses a complex mirror system, which creates a tangled labyrinthine space, from which it is difficult to get out.

Assistance in the creation of the interactive museum was provided by scientists from St. Petersburg scientific institutes, the museum exhibits were created in close partnership with St. Petersburg enterprises and universities, such as, for example, St. Petersburg University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics, Mirror Plant, LOMO, Pedagogical University named after A.. AND. Herzen.

On 700 square meters there are about 60 exhibits that explain the origin of the phenomena of the surrounding world, demonstrate the operation of various laws of physics.

"LabyrinthUm" is divided into 7 thematic zones: "Mirror World", "Zone of Logical Tasks", "World of Physical Experiments", which contains a magnetic bridge, pendulums, an air cannon and other exhibits that are intended for independent research and collective experiments, " Black Room "with light effects and lasers," Water World ", where the effect of waves and tornadoes is shown, in addition, there are zones for holding master classes and celebrations, where shows of entertaining science are held (" Miracles in the Kitchen "," Magic Liquids "and other). Thus, each zone of the interactive museum is represented by exhibits that clearly illustrate the operation of the laws of various fields of physics: optics, mechanics, dynamics, magnetism, electricity, and various natural phenomena. For example, in the Black Room you can create or catch your own shadow, in the World of Physical Experiments, holding hands, form a living electrical circuit and light a huge lamp, in the Water World you can build a real dam or find yourself inside a huge soap bubble. Playing and jokingly, visitors comprehend those complex laws of physics that are so difficult to understand in the classroom.

"LabyrinthUm" by its design is a continuation of the idea of the "House of Entertaining Science", which was created in Leningrad in 1935 under the leadership of Ya. I. Perelman. This historical connection and the very quality of the presented exposition make the museum one of the most interesting places in St. Petersburg.

In an interactive museum of entertaining science, physics is transformed from a boring science into an interesting subject, knowing the laws of which you can explain many everyday phenomena, for example, why when soup boils, water runs out of the pot, and many others. The museum has a special Laboratory, which was created for conducting practical school and student activities.

The museum has been functioning not so long ago, but its practice has shown that a casual form of transmission of physical knowledge is much more effective than studying school textbooks. When the children themselves become participants in the experiment, physics ceases to seem like a complicated science.

A trip to the interactive museum of entertaining science "LabyrinthUm" can give an unforgettable experience for both children and adults.
