Description of the attraction
Fantasylandia is one of the largest amusement parks in Latin America with an area of 8 hectares, located in the center of Santiago. It was opened in 1978 in the green area of O'Higgins Park. The park entrance is opposite the Movistar Arena.
Fantasylandia Park is also renowned for its state-of-the-art attractions, as it was the first theme park in South America to feature a 360-degree Galaxy roller coaster and so far the only Boomerang slide in South America.
The Fantasylandia amusement park is the embodiment of the idea of Gerardo Artega, who in the late 70s conceived to create a space of fun, entertainment and relaxation in the center of the Chilean capital. In 1977, the mayor of Santiago, Patricio Mekis, signed a project to create a "Chilean Disneyland" in a part of O'Higgins Park with a lease of land for 50 years, subject to the preservation of all types of trees in the park.
Since the beginning of 1978, the amusement park has begun operating with eight classic attractions: the Octopus carousel, the Galaxy roller coaster, the Evil Mansion horror room, children's carousels, and Ford T carousel rides. Over time, fabulous and extreme attractions such as Xtreme Fall, Top Spin, Raptor and Boomerang slide were added.
At the end of 2007, the park opened a new attraction "Tsunami", which replaced the classic "Splash". This enhanced version of the "splash" consists of a huge single dip that creates a large wave and is offered for family entertainment. Also, new attractions have opened in the children's area of the park: "Mini-Scooters", Villa Mágica, "Dragon", "Ducklings" and many others.
In addition to the opening of new attractions for each season, the Fantasylandia Park is also modernizing and re-equipping its previously built facilities: the entrance to O'Higgins Park now has a new giant colorful park logo, reconstruction has been carried out in the 3D Villa Magica zone and in the Pirate Revenge zone, which now include the Pirates family attraction and a pirate ship restaurant, attracting more and more visitors to this part of the park.
In the summer of 2013, Fantasylandia Park received its first award from the IAAPA (International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions).
Fantasylandia amusement park is considered a safe park, because throughout its history there have been only two incidents, one of which was related to health problems of a visitor and ended tragically. The second incident occurred due to a malfunction of the attraction, but without tragic consequences. As a result, the Ministry of Health ordered the closure of the attraction and introduced stricter security checks on all other attractions in the park.
