Description of the attraction
The Church of St. Paraskeva (Bulgarian Sveta Paraskeva Petka) is located in the very center of Varna, at the intersection of General Koleva and Bratya Miladinovi streets. Saint Paraskeva herself Friday, also sometimes called "Bulgarian Friday", is one of the most revered saints in Bulgaria and the Balkan region in general.
Unlike many churches in Varna, the Church of St. Paraskeva was not destroyed during the period of the popularity of pro-communist anti-religious sentiments.
In 1928, another building was added to the church. Until 1945, there was a canteen, where the poor, refugee families and orphans could get hot food. Now this building houses a baptismal room. In 1973, thanks to the efforts of artists Dimitar Bakalsky, Alexander Sorokin and Sergey Rostovtsev, the walls of the temple were decorated with beautiful paintings.
