Description of the attraction

The Museum of the History of the Telephone in Moscow has recently opened. Its exposition is located in the office of the Mastertel company. The idea of creating an unusual museum belongs to the General Director of the company - Vitaly Ezopov. His fascination with the history of telephony laid the foundation for a large collection of antique telephones and various means of communication, as well as accessories.

Its creator considers the purpose of the museum to preserve the huge world heritage in the field of telephone communications. The founders of the museum consider the transfer of knowledge about the development and evolution of communication means to the next generations very important. How communications have influenced the development of mankind as a whole.

In the museum, you can trace the entire evolutionary path of the telephone from a wooden interior item to a miniature computer telephone. From the exposition it becomes clear how long and painstaking work of many inventors has led to the emergence of modern communication facilities. Among scientists in this field, both domestic and foreign names are well known: Yablochkov, Popov, Tesla, Bell, Morse, Edison, Meucci, Marconi and many others.

Today the Moscow Museum of the History of the Telephone is the owner of the largest collection of telephone sets in Europe in terms of the number of telephone sets. On display is an exact replica of Bell's first telephone set. The creator himself called it "a telegraphic device for transmitting speech at a distance." The range did not exceed 500 meters. In the collection of the museum there is a transatlantic telephone cable, on which, in January 1927, the first commercial telephone conversation took place between London and New York.

The exposition includes the most interesting exhibits - a French DIY telephone set, a secret telephone for diplomats and an English telephone booth. In total, the collection contains more than a thousand rare exhibits from many places on the planet. A retrospective of communications in Europe has been created in the museum.

New exhibits are constantly appearing in the museum exposition. Of the latest acquisitions, one can single out a telephone from Ericsson, manufactured in 1895 and which has become the hallmark of the well-known company. Siemens phone model 1887. Willard Henderson acoustic telephone, 1881 from the USA. In the museum, you can see equipment "before the telephone" period - old telegraphs, "rope telephone". Special telephones are exhibited in a special hall. These are telephone devices that were used in WWI and WWII. Telephone devices that were used in complex industries and transport dispatchers.

The interesting museum plans to build a separate specialized museum building in St. Petersburg. It is planned to transfer part of the exhibits of the existing museum there.
