Description of the attraction
Theater - studio of Oleg Tabakov, or "Snuffbox", was opened in 1987 in the basement on Chaplygin Street. In 1973, O. Tabakov, with the help of like-minded people, embodied his idea - he recruited talented children to the drama club. The selection was tough - out of more than three thousand applicants, only forty-nine people were selected. The circle was located in the Palace of Pioneers. Krupskaya. The teaching of disciplines in the circle was carried out according to the university program. The program included such subjects as the history of Russian theater and the history of world art, stage plastic, stage movement and others. In 1976, O. Tabakov took a course at GITIS. The course is based on the graduates of his "drama club". Of those who came to the course on their own, one can single out Elena Mayorova. O. Tabakov spent a lot of time and effort on this course. The training program was very different from the program adopted at the institute.
Basement room on the street. O. Tabakov received Chaplygin in 1977. The head of the RSU, Yu. Goltsman, helped in this. The basement is a former coal warehouse. It had to be thoroughly cleaned and repaired. All works were performed by the hands of the master and his students.
In 1978, the theater in the basement opened with the premiere of the play "I'll come back to you in the spring" based on Kazantsev's play. Then the performances Farewell, Mowgli, Two Arrows, Barbara Passion, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs were staged. Tabakov's students mastered the profession by participating in performances. Soon the theater became known not only in the capital. Articles about the theater, written by the best journalists and cultural critics of the time, began to appear in the press. A successful tour in Hungary showed that a new theater was born.
However, the theater was not only denied official status, but it was generally closed. The ban was signed by V. Grishin, the first secretary of the party's MGK. The new idea was not developed.
