Description of the attraction
The most unique place of Janapanda Locke - the Museum of Folk Arts - is located in the state of Karnataka, 53 kilometers from the city of Bangalore. But it is not a museum in the traditional sense, it is rather a research and cultural center, where you can not only get acquainted with the works of Indian folk masters, but also watch a performance and take part in impromptu performances, attend master classes and just have a good rest. The main focus of the center is the preservation and promotion of a lifestyle close to nature and to national roots.
This organization was conceived in 1986 by the famous Canadian folklorist Nage Govda, and by 1994 his project was realized.
Located in the countryside, Janapanda Lokka covers an area of about 61 sq m and is a complex of buildings and resembles a kind of student campus. The main places that you should definitely visit by visiting this museum are: Saraswathi Mandira - a building located near the artificial lake Lokka Sarovara, where you can admire hand-made dolls of human height; Lokka Mahal - a warehouse where weapons, ritual and carnival masks, dishes, various artifacts are stored; Puppet Theatre; outdoor theater; cinema. In addition, a variety of seminars are often held there, and you can also attend various courses and even receive a certificate from the Museum of Folk Arts upon completion.
A large number of festivals and festivals are held on the territory of Janapanda Lokka every year. The most famous and most visited is the Lokotsawa festival, which is held in February or March and lasts for two days.
