Description of the attraction
The Naschmarkt is the largest and most famous market in Vienna, located near the center between the Mariahilf and Wieden districts. The market houses about 120 retail outlets and restaurants serving Indian, Japanese, Vietnamese, Italian and Spanish cuisines. The famous flea market is open on Saturdays and is considered one of the best in Europe. The Saturday Flea Market has been around since 1977.
The Naschmarkt has existed since the 16th century, when mainly dairy products were traded here. Milk was brought in bottles and barrels made of ash, which was called "Ash". This is how the "ashmarkt" was entrenched in the market, which gradually transformed into the Naschmarkt. In 1793, the fruit and vegetable trade was moved from the Frejung square to the Naschmarkt market. The size of the market increased dramatically after the river was removed underground.
Today in the market you can buy fresh fruits and vegetables from all over the world, exotic herbs and spices, all kinds of cheeses, baked goods, seafood and fresh meat for every taste.
But in addition to buying a variety of products, there are many delicious restaurants in the market. Tewa restaurant is suitable for adherents of a healthy lifestyle, because the menu of this restaurant only includes dishes from organic products. Israeli and Oriental cuisines can be sampled at Neni Restaurant, which serves Lebanese Tabouleh and Shakshuka Salad. One of the best fish restaurants in the capital is also located here - Umar offers chic dishes from the freshest fish and seafood. It is impossible not to mention two establishments from which the tradition of opening restaurants in the Naschmarkt market began: Do-an and Deli were the first to attract young townspeople to the market, captivating them not only with delicious dishes, but also with DJs playing on weekends.
Today Naschmarkt is a popular tourist destination where people come to feel the atmosphere of the city and feel like a local for a short time.
