Description of the attraction
The State Museum-Reserve of the Russian poet M. Yu. Lermontov in Pyatigorsk, at 4 Lermontov Street, is the only attraction in Russia associated with his name that has survived in its original form.
The museum-reserve was founded in 1912. It is located in the house where the poet spent his last months and wrote his last poems: "The Sea Princess", "Leaf" and others, which have become masterpieces of Russian literature. From here they buried Lermontov, who was killed during the duel. Over the long years of its existence, the house has practically not been destroyed. The interior of the building was recreated according to the descriptions of the poet's friends and acquaintances.
The museum exposition consists of four sections and includes many original materials and personal belongings of Lermontov. In total, there are 58,500 exhibits in the museum's funds, of which 30434 are items of the main fund. The following collections are of unique value in the museum-reserve: “M. Yu. Lermontov in the visual arts "; collection of sheet music “M. Yu. Lermontov in Music "; collection of postcards of the 19th century; Postcards; archive of the Lermontov Encyclopedia; sheet music; collection of illustrations to the works of M. Yu. Lermontov; library for the Caucasus. The museum has a scientific library and archive.
Today, the Pyatigorsk Museum-Reserve of M. Yu. Lermontov is the center of the cultural life of Pyatigorsk, which is not only memorial monuments and expositions, but also a meeting place for the creative elite: poets, composers, artists, bards, and designers. The museum also hosts evenings of Russian old romance, vernissages, concerts, All-Russian Lermontov Poetry Festivals, various competitions and book presentations.
