Description of the attraction
Vrelo-Bosne Park is the name given to a public park located on the outskirts of Sarajevo, in the municipality of Ilidza. The park is old, founded in the Austro-Hungarian era. This popular natural attraction is located in the foothills of Igman, the mountain from which the Bosna River originates.
The river flows through the park, giving it a name and decorating it with its waterfalls and islets. The banks of Bosna are connected by the Roman bridge, located next to the park. It got its name because in the middle of the 16th century it was built from Roman materials. Even during the domination of Rome, there was a bridge here, through which the Romans crossed into the village on the other side of Bosna. The ruins of this bridge were used to build a new one.
The beautiful mountain river is one of the best attractions in this picturesque massif. The purity of Bosna spring water allows you to drink it without preliminary purification. The park itself is a network of roads, bridges and crossings over rapid water streams and over waterfalls. In the summertime, green foliage is reflected in the water of the dams, like in a mirror.
The main alley of plane trees, along which buildings from the times of Austria-Hungary stretch, stretches for three kilometers. Therefore, in addition to hiking, visitors enjoy using horse-drawn carriages. Other roads are well equipped for cycling routes. This makes it possible to explore a much larger area of the park. Its native inhabitants are handsome swans, and beautiful ducks in their own way calmly take food from the hands of tourists.
The Bosnian war caused considerable damage to the park: many trees were cut down by local residents to heat their homes. In 2000, an international organization for the protection of the environment arranged work to recreate the park in its former form. The youth of the region took an active part in this project. As a result, it was maximally restored to its pre-war state.
Another attraction of the park is the mineral and thermal springs typical of most European mountains. In the park, they are appropriately equipped so that those who wish can take spa treatments.
