Description of the attraction

The Rainbow Fountain Bridge is the main bridge located in the central area of Seoul. It is built over the Hangang River and connects the administrative districts of Yongsan-gu and Seocho. The Han River flows through all of Seoul, and then flows into the Yellow Sea. There are 27 bridges across the river, most of which connect the southern and northern parts of Seoul.

The Rainbow Fountain Bridge is built over another bridge, Yamsu, and is in its own way the top half of a two-tiered structure. This beautiful and intricate architectural structure was the first two-level bridge built in South Korea.

During the rainy season, the Yamsu bridge is completely submerged, as the water level in the river rises, and the lower tier of the bridge is located close to the coastline. At this time, this bridge is closed to pedestrians and cyclists. The Rainbow Fountain Bridge, which was built over the Yamsu Bridge, solved this problem.

The bridge was officially opened in September 2009. The "Rainbow Fountain" bridge is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records, and its length is 1140 m. The jets of the fountain, which is located on the sides of the bridge, are directed downwards, not upwards, like all fountains. Water comes from the Hangang River, and then returns back to the river, and at the same time, the water passing through the fountain is purified. About 190 tons of water per minute are thrown into the air from each side of the bridge.

The fountain works around the clock, accompanied by music, and in the evening the bridge-fountain is illuminated. Due to the multitude of shades thanks to LED floodlights, the bridge was named "Rainbow Fountain".
