Description of the attraction
On the southwestern coast of the Greek island of Skiathos (about 16 km from the capital of the same name) is the best beach center of the island - Koukounaris. This is a real piece of paradise with an excellent sandy beach surrounded by a picturesque pine forest. It is one of the few places in Greece where the Italian pine tree grows. Actually, from here this place got its name, as in translation from Greek "kukunaris" means "piniya".
Until 1964, when the island was designated by the National Tourism Organization of Greece as a promising area for tourism development, the city of Skiathos was the only settlement on the island. After that, a good asphalt road was laid along the coast, linking Skiathos and the rapidly developing Koukounaris. It was originally planned to build a 9-hole golf course in the area between the road and the beach area, but the project was never implemented. Today, there is an incredibly beautiful park with Lake Strofilia, connected to the sea by a narrow channel. The territory of the park is recognized as a protected area and is home to wild animals and birds. This is a great place for lovers of long walks.
The magnificent beach of Koukounaris is rightfully considered not only one of the best beaches in the Aegean Sea, but also in the entire Mediterranean. The beach is well organized. Here you will find everything you need for a comfortable stay - beach bars where you can cool off and have a snack, sun loungers and sun umbrellas, etc. To the services of fans of active recreation - various types of water sports. You can also rent a boat and take an exciting boat trip along the scenic shores of Skiathos. The surrounding beach area has an excellent selection of lodging, shops and many excellent tavernas and restaurants.
Getting to Koukounaris is not difficult as there is a regular bus service to Skiathos town. You can also take a taxi or rent a car.
