Description of the attraction

A monument to a chimney sweep - a symbol of happiness, cast in bronze, was installed in the Transcarpathian city of Mukachevo in June 2010. The sculpture was installed in the central square, right on the pavement next to the fountain, opposite the local House of Culture. The townspeople immediately called the monument "Bertalon-bachi".

This original monument is made in a very young genre for Ukraine - street sculpture. They can be seen in the most unexpected place, and the Mukachevo Chimney Sweep is no exception. A grimy, but never grieving man with brooms and ropes on his shoulder happily walks along the city pavement, and next to his friend - a faithful cat, in all likelihood, is also happy. Walking down the street, a person lovingly looks around his hometown, and in his eyes - sparks of joy. This is how we remember the chimney sweep - the hero of children's fairy tales. It is called a symbol of happiness because a meeting with a chimney sweep-kominar ("komyn", "komin" in Transcarpathia is a chimney) is considered to be a guarantee of good luck. Indeed, in the old days, a broom for a chimney sweep was made of birch, which has symbolized fertility since pagan times. With soot - the same thing, it is a symbol of fire and life-giving warmth. And the people say that everything that warms and bears fruit brings happiness. Now everyone can touch the chimney sweep's bronze button and make a wish.

The monument was created by the People's Artist of Ukraine Ivan Brovdi.
