Description of the attraction
Center Pompidou, or, as the Parisians call it, Beaubourg is one of the most popular cultural sites in Paris. Up to 8 million people visit it annually - more than the Eiffel Tower.
The center was opened in 1977 at the initiative of French President Georges Pompidou, who fulfilled his dream of a cultural center that would become both a museum and a creative workshop.
Architects from 49 countries took part in the competition for the project of the Center. The winners were Renzo Piano (Italy) and Richard Rogers (Great Britain), offering a huge high-tech building. Its feature was the introduction of internal communications on the facades, which became part of the design. The air conditioning systems surrounding the building are painted bright blue, plumbing green, electrical cables yellow, lifts and escalators red. Beaubourg is a bit like a plant, but a very beautiful plant.
Extravagant architecture fell in love with the Parisians. The large square in front of the Center with excellent acoustics was chosen by musicians, street mimes and jugglers. Carnivals are held here every spring. Beaubourg is also adjoined by a cozy Stravinsky Square with an unusual fountain of the same name - “mechanical sculptures” created according to the themes of the composer's works are moving in it.
The Center Pompidou houses Europe's largest National Museum of Contemporary Art with the richest collection of 20th century masters. It also houses the free Public Library (2 million volumes), concert and exhibition halls, the Center for Music and Acoustic Research. On the fifth and sixth floors of the Center, major exhibitions are held every year - works by Pollock, Kandinsky, Leger were exhibited here.
The main facade of the Center is diagonally crossed by a huge transparent escalator. Along it you can climb to the upper observation deck, which offers an excellent view of Paris. From the north to Bobur is adjacent to the Chasov quarter - a pedestrian craft zone. A huge animated clock "Defender of Time" is installed here. At the onset of each hour, the bronze man engages in a fight with one of three monsters - Earth, Water, Air.
