Description of the attraction
The monument to Adam Mitskevich is located in the park of the same name in the center of Ivano-Frankivsk.
Ivano-Frankivsk is not only called the gateway to the Carpathians, but also one of the most beautiful cities in Ukraine. Due to the fact that the city at different times was under the rule of Poland, Austria, the Soviet Union, today it is a treasure trove of architectural monuments. And one of the sights of this city can be called a monument to the famous poet - Adam Mitskevich. The monument was erected in honor of the centenary of the poet's birth and was made of the most beautiful Italian marble.
The architect of the monument was T. Blonsky, the work belongs to the famous sculptor Tadeusz Blotnitsky. The monument is striking in its portrait likeness, because it was modeled on the poet's death mask. It should be noted that the history of the creation of the monument goes back more than one decade. So, work on its creation began in 1881, when the monument was made of white marble. It was decorated with an inscription in Polish - “To Adam Mickiewicz on the centenary of his birth - citizens of Stanislavov. 1898.
However, during the First World War, the monument suffered significant damage, after which it was decided to cast the figure of the poet from bronze. In 1930, the monument was erected on a new, more distinct pedestal. And ten years later the plate in Polish was replaced with another one - "Adam Mickiewicz, 1798-1855".
Adam Mickiewicz was an outstanding personality, a poet, whose works were of great importance for the development not only of the Polish national liberation movement, but also for the establishment of democracy throughout the world.
