Description of the attraction
Lake Khan is located on the shores of the Sea of Azov and the Beysugsky estuary, 55 km south of Yeisk, in the vicinity of the villages of Yasenskaya and Kopanskaya. This is a closed, stagnant shallow body of water, in fact - a lagoon, separated from the Beysugsky estuary by a long, narrow and low barrow.
The lake feeds mainly on atmospheric precipitation, the influx of rain and melt water brought by the Yasenya River, as well as the waters of the Sea of Azov, which roll over a narrow spit separating the Beisugsky estuary and the Sea of Azov from Lake Khan. The maximum depth of the lake is 80 cm; in dry years, the lake dries up completely, exposing the salt bottom.
Lake Khan is famous for the fact that at its bottom, for example, near the mouth of the Yasenya River, there are deposits of mud with healing power. Legend has it that many years ago the Crimean Khan founded a fortress on the shore of the lake, erected a palace and took muddy baths in the lake. Perhaps this is where the name of the lake comes from.
