Description of the attraction

The city walls are considered to be one of the best preserved city fortifications in Europe.

The city acquired its current form of fortification with a perimeter of 1940 meters in the 16th century. It was then that the Italian architects built key fragments of the city fortifications: Mincheta Tower, Pile Gate, Bokar Fortress, as well as two separate fortresses: Lovrienac and Revelin. In 1484, a protective pier of Kashe was poured and since then has stood in the port, defending the city port from pirates and storms.

The port is protected by the fortress of St. John. It now houses the Maritime Museum and a small aquarium.

The fortress walls offer a magnificent view of the ancient city and port.
