Talat Sao Morning Market opens at 7 am and works until 4 pm, so the word “morning” in its name is rather just an indication of what time of day the widest range of goods can be found here. Local residents assure that by 12 noon, at best, one third of the products that were available in the morning remain on the shelves. Therefore, in order not to miscalculate and have the opportunity to choose, it is better to go shopping in Talat Sao in the morning.
Talat Sao is the largest market in the Lao capital, so there is no shortage of buyers. It consists of two parts: the original two-story building, where the grandparents of modern Lao people used to shop, and a new shopping center with powerful air conditioning, built in 2009. The four-story center sells clothing and electronics. There is a huge supermarket, a three-screen cinema, a children's play area and a food court on the fourth floor. On the ground floor there are branches of several banks and currency exchange offices.
In the old section of the market, you can get lost in a maze of narrow shopping arcades, where farmers and artisans from all over Laos flock to sell their goods at a profit. Even the highest prices for local traders are still considered low by tourists. In addition, you can and should bargain here. People come here to buy various crafts made of wood and vines, jewelry, fabrics, silk, bags, umbrellas, scarves. Sellers, as in any market in Southeast Asia, can be intrusive, offering to try food or take a closer look at a particular product. The bustle of this place is also given by the nearby city bus station, where buses constantly arrive.
