Description of the attraction
The project of the church, named in the name of the Iberian Icon of the Mother of God, located in the village of Zakhnovo, Pskov region, on the shore of a small lake opposite the Malsky monastery of the 16th century, was carried out in 2000 by architect Lyudmila Kleshnina and design engineer Arnis Asispo on a special order of the well-known Blagovest foundation. The customer's requirements were as follows: to repeat the Church of St. Andrew the First-Called, located on the Bolshoi Zayatsky Island of the Solovetsky Archipelago.
The construction of the temple was carried out with large deviations from the finished project, which significantly changed the roof and the general proportions of the temple. But, despite the fact that the authors did not manage to fully control the implementation of their initial project, and the temple was built with deviations from it, the Church of the Iberian Icon of the Mother of God is a wonderful example of temple architecture and is a true decoration of this picturesque area. At the same time, the temple also did not become an ordinary copy of the church in Solovki - in the harmonious proportions of the church of the Iberian Icon of the Mother of God, the dedication to the Mother of God is clearly visible.
