Description of the attraction
The "fire-breathing Chimera" located on the top of Yanartash Mountain is considered a unique natural phenomenon in Turkey. Mount Yanartash itself is located near the city of Kemer, at a distance of 7 km from the ancient city of Olympos. Yanartas is one of the most visited places, which was chosen by tourists.
There is a legend about the terrible Chimera who lived on this mountain. This monster, born of the union of the mythical Typhon and Echidna, had the head of a lion, the body of a goat and the tail of a snake. The fire-breathing Chimera attacked local residents who lived in constant fear. But one day a hero named Bellerophon flew up the mountain on Pegasus, killed the Chimera and threw her into the mountain. Since that time, the Chimera has released its fury from the depths of the mountain in the form of flames.
If we approach from a scientific point of view the appearance of a flame on the mountain, then we can say that this is just a gas that seeps from the depths of the mountain and ignites spontaneously. Attempts to extinguish the flame do not lead to anything, since after a while the flame lights up again. When the fire on the mountain was quite strong, it was a beacon for sailors. For the Byzantines, this place was considered sacred.
Mount Yanartash looks very beautiful at night. It seems as if tongues of flame are performing some kind of mysterious ritual dance. The ruins of an ancient structure enhance the effect of mystery and mysticism.
During the day, the Chimera is guarded by snakes that bask in the warm sunlight. Therefore, when visiting the mountain, you need to be very careful. There are a lot of tourists on the mountain at any time of the day, although the path to the mountain is rather difficult. At the very beginning of the path, there is a sign stating that it is contraindicated to climb the mountain for people suffering from cardiovascular diseases and pregnant women. It is difficult to go upstairs due to the fact that it is hard to breathe at high altitude. A winding path, 700 meters long, leads travelers between the branched trees to the top of the mountain. Many do not succeed in reaching the goal, and they come back. Someone does not even begin the ascent, because they are afraid of the difficulties that arise during the ascent, but then with envy they listen to the enthusiastic story of the one who has visited the mountain. The mountain offers a stunning view of the bay.

The crowns of tall pines half-hide the turquoise of the sky. Deep gorges, neighboring mountains - everything looks so pristine, so clean, so untouched by civilization! I would like to stay here forever, forgetting about the everyday hustle and bustle of cities !!! Time seemed to have stopped … Probably, these marvelous mountains looked the same a million years ago … The resinous aroma is dizzy … The silence is broken only by the whistling of some unfamiliar birdies and multilingual speech by groups of enthusiastic tourists descending from time to time on the way. The ascent took about an hour. When they began to rise, below it catastrophically quickly (as always happens in these latitudes) it got dark, and at the same time it got colder. The higher we climbed with the guide, the brighter it became. As soon as the stairs ended, an amazing view of the fires of the mountain suddenly opened up, it became very warm … The sight is unusual, strange, memorable for a long time. Flame burning on bare stones! Miracle! For some reason, enchanted tourists from different countries speak in whispers, as if they are afraid to scare away the magic …
