Description of the attraction

Trinity Cathedral was built in 1868. The very first wooden church appeared on this site even earlier - in 1796. The Greek gymnasium, formed in 1826, existed on the basis of this temple. Over time, they decided to dismantle the wooden church and build a larger cathedral instead. And so, in 1868, parishioners could already come to the new church.

The cathedral was designed by I. Kolodin, a famous architect. The building is designed in a classic style. Its base is cruciform, in the middle there is a light drum in the form of an octahedron. The bell tower was built above the left aisle. Mosaic images and decorative patterns adorn the building's façade. Corinthian capitals, small pilasters and arches also became the decoration of the temple. Church domes and a bell tower are blue. This is the current appearance of the cathedral.

The interior of the cathedral is also interesting. The image of Christ is depicted under the dome, four evangelists are depicted on the sails. One side-altar is named after Saints Helena and Constantine, the other - Nicholas of Mirliki.

Especially revered relics are found in this cathedral. These are the relics of St. Luke. During his lifetime and after death, he performed extraordinary healings. And also the icon "The Image of the Grieving Blessed Virgin Mary". A resident of the city gave this icon as a gift. Then the image on the icon could hardly be seen, the image seemed darkened and faded. The icon was placed on the altar, and two weeks later it was transformed, it happened on the feast of the Assumption. The woman who presented the icon came to the church and could not believe her eyes. The icon seemed renewed and bright, although it was not restored. The icon became blessed, and in 1999 it was transported throughout the Crimea.

The Soviet authorities have repeatedly wanted to close the cathedral. They managed to defend it, the temple was preserved in many respects through the efforts of the Greek community. But two ministers paid with their lives for this salvation - Archpriest N. Mezentsev and Bishop Porfiry of Simferopol and Crimea were shot in 1937-1938. The Church in 1997 ranked these priests among the saints of local veneration.

In 2003, a monastery was formed around the temple. Trinity Cathedral is a well-known landmark of Simferopol. In addition to him, a chapel and a Baptismal Church in the name of Elijah the Prophet were built on the territory of the monastery. Tourists visiting the city do not ignore this bright and prayerful place.
