Description of the attraction

The memorial museum-apartment of Isaac Izrailevich Brodsky, a unique person, a gifted teacher, artist and collector, located in the historical center of St. Petersburg on the Arts Square in a house designed by K. Rossi and L. Benois was opened in 1949. From 1924 to 1939, the last 15 years of his life, I. I. Brodsky lived and worked in this studio and apartment.

Isaak Brodsky, a favorite student of I. E. Repin, graduated from the Academy of Arts, painted landscapes and portraits with equal success. A number of his works were devoted to the military theme and the events of the revolution. Brodsky's students were outstanding Russian artists - Yu. M. Neprintsev, A. I. Laktionov, P. P. Belousov V. M. Oreshnikov. I. I. Brodsky is the central figure in official Soviet art of the 1920s – 1930s.

Over the course of several decades, Brodsky compiled a unique collection, which included works by Russian painters of the eighteenth and early twentieth centuries. In the Brodsky Museum you can see paintings by I. E. Repin, V. V. Makovsky, V. I. Surikov, V. D. Polenov, V. A. Serov, I. I. Levitan and K. A. Korovin, A. Ya. Golovina, M. A. Vrubel. B. M. Kustodieva, M. V. Nesterova, V. A. Serova, S. Yu. Zhukovsky, A. N. Benois, N. K. Roerich, B. D. Grigoriev and other artists.

The museum funds include more than 2,000 items and paintings, including more than two hundred paintings and graphic works by Brodsky and more than six hundred paintings by other authors, as well as documents, memorial items, furniture, books, photographs with unique autographs of famous people. In 2001, the reconstruction of the house on the Arts Square was completed. Since that time, the museum has regularly organized various exhibitions of contemporary artists, and on the second floor of the building, in the studio, which is a hall with excellent acoustics, chamber vocal and instrumental concerts of classical music are now being held.
