Description of the attraction
St. Andrew's Cathedral of the city of Zaporozhye is located on the street on March 8. St. Andrew's Cathedral has long become the main attraction of the Shevchenko district, which is one of the largest districts of Zaporozhye. The temple was named after the Apostle Andrew the First-Called.
The history of St. Andrew's Cathedral began in September 1995. At this time, with the blessing of His Eminence Basil, Archbishop of Zaporozhye and Melitopol, in the former T. Shevchenko cinema, the St. Andrew's religious community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was founded.
A few months later, in the largest room on the second floor, a church was placed, which was named after St. Seraphim of Sarov. Until 2000, the St. Andrew's religious community of the city of Zaporozhye gathered in the converted premises of the T. Shevchenko cinema.
In 2000, T. Shevchenko's cinema was reconstructed and St. Andrew's Cathedral was erected in its place. The cathedral was built at the expense of the Motor-Sich enterprise and other patrons of the arts.
St. Andrew's Cathedral is decorated with a huge central dome and two small domes on the sides. A high bell tower rises nearby.
Today, the golden domes of the temple sparkle in the sun, low columns frame the facades of the cathedral and the upper tiers of the bell tower, and the classic style, softness, lightness of details and beautiful wall paintings create a joyful impression from contemplating the temple.
