Description of the attraction
The monument to the famous film director Sergei Bondarchuk in the city of Yeysk is the first and only one in Russia. It is located in the center of the resort, at the intersection of two streets - Pobeda and Lenin, on the alley that leads to the cinema named after S. Bondarchuk.
The grand opening of the monument, made in the form of a two-meter sculpture, took place on June 16, 2007. The sculptor depicted Bondarchuk sitting in an armchair with an overcoat hanging from the back. A pensive filmmaker holds a rosary in his hand. The author of the monument was the sculptor Irina Makarova. She worked on the creation of the monument for four years. As for the composition, I. Makarova reports that the soldier's overcoat personifies the memories of S. F. Bondarchuk about the Great Patriotic War, in which he took part and dedicated many of his works to it, and the rosary is a gift from his friend V. Syrgiladze.
The city in which the monument was to be erected was chosen by the widow of director S. Bondarchuk - People's Artist of Russia I. Skobtseva. The famous film director spent all his childhood and youth in Yeisk. Here he lived and studied, and it was from here that his acting career began. From 1937 to 1938 he was an actor in the Yeisk Drama Theater.
