Description of the attraction
In the Khapgal gorge, on the territory of the Alushta region, there is the most full-flowing waterfall of the Crimean peninsula - Dzhur-Dzhur. This is a stormy and very picturesque waterfall, the name of which in translation from Armenian means "water-water". Dzhur-Dzhur never dries up, even in the driest seasons. The waterfall is formed by the waters of the Ulu-Uzen River, which descends along a three-slope threshold from a hundred-meter height and a wide five-meter threshold from a limestone fifteen-meter natural ledge collapses into a fairly deep pit, and then tends further down the winding river bed with a powerful stream.
Dzhur-Dzhur, or as the Greeks called it in the Middle Ages, Kremasto-Nero, which means "hanging water", is a natural monument of republican significance. Here there is gloomy wild, beautiful nature: the steep slopes of the gorge overgrown with forests rise to the sky, stones overgrown with moss lie in a heap around the waterfall, and the air is constantly humid, filled with drops of water spray. Splashes of water form a veil of weightless fog that vibrates, shaking the unique trees growing here. Here you can find a proud hornbeam, a century-old oak, a beautiful linden, dogwood, mountain ash, hazel, and in the cliff just above the waterfall from a crevice in the rock, a life-loving, proud yew grows.
The streams of the waterfall, murmuring, slide down and, breaking into thousands of water fragments, turn the water spray into icy dust, in the fog of which a bright rainbow plays. Such an unusual sight simply fascinates with its fabulous beauty: foamy streams of water illuminated by the sun's rays, murmuring, fall from high, greenish cliffs overgrown with moss, and all this against the backdrop of gloomy, harsh mountains.
Along the gorge, you can climb even higher and after about a kilometer you can see a stunning series of picturesque rapids-cascades, of which the most beautiful are the first and the last, whose height is 30 and 60 m, respectively.
Not far from the waterfall is the most interesting cave Jur-Jur, which is almost 800 meters long and 22 meters deep. The cave is surrounded by an old forest, it is kept by ancient beeches and hornbeams, which are in perfect harmony with the surrounding mountain cliffs.
The water streams Dzhur-Dzhur and the Khapgal gorge are one of the unique hydrological reserves of Crimea and just an amazingly beautiful place, visiting which everyone will leave only the most pleasant memories in their hearts.
