Description of the attraction

The Sunnmøre Museum is a beautiful ethnographic museum located 4 km from the city of Ålesund on 120 hectares of beautiful parkland. The open-air museum, founded in 1931, displays about 50 historical buildings, reflecting different periods of the city's existence - from the Middle Ages to the beginning of the XX century.

Most of the visitors to the museum are attracted by the collection of Viking boats, which at that time served as a means of survival. They were used for fishing, as well as for the transport of goods, people and animals. A walk through the museum will allow you to see churches, models of wooden houses and outbuildings, rural and fishing houses from different parts of Norway.

The main building, located in beautiful surroundings, hosts interesting exhibitions on archeology and culture, telling about the life of the people who have inhabited this region since ancient times.

The museum is open to the public only in summer.
