Description of the attraction

The Mannequin Pis (Manneken Pis) fountain is the most famous and popular attraction in Brussels. It is located near the Grand Place. This miniature sculpture-fountain of the Manneken Pis was originally made of stone, then thanks to the court master Jerome Duquesnoy in 1619 it became bronze.

The 61 cm tall figurine called "Little Julian" has a huge wardrobe with over 800 outfits. All of them are kept in the Royal Museum. The costume change list is posted monthly by the non-profit organization Manneken Pis. Dressing up, a tradition that originated in 1698 thanks to the ruler of Bavaria, takes place to the music of the Brass Band.

According to legend, it was just such a kid who saved the city from the fire. However, "Mannequin Peace" for true Brussels people is the personification of the free spirit of the city and embodies the perky folk humor, therefore, his image is found everywhere in the Belgian capital.

Manneken Pis also serves as the main Brussels calendar, according to which, depending on the attire of the sculpture, local residents learn about various city events and activities. If the boy is naked, then nothing interesting happens in Brussels, if he is wearing a Santa Claus costume, then it's time to get ready for Christmas.
