Roman Viktyuk Theater is an author's theater. Such today are the "Workshop of Peter Fomenko" and until recently was the "Theater on Taganka" by Yuri Lyubimov. This is a rather rare type of theater. All performances of the theater's repertoire are subject to one aesthetic program of the director. The work with the actors is carried out in the direction of fulfilling the diverse, artistic tasks set by the director. The founder of the theater, chief director and artistic director of the theater is Roman Viktyuk.

The concept of "Theater of Roman Viktyuk" emerged in the early nineties. In 1991, Roman Viktyuk staged the play “M. Butterfly "in the style of a post-Soviet entreprise. The stunningly beautiful, enchanting costumes of Alla Kozhevnikova, the participation of the most famous artists, made the performance bright and at the same time controversial. Experts - theater experts argued, spectators argued.

In the fantasies of Viktyuk himself, the theater was born a long time ago, in adolescence, while playing its first roles on the stage of the theater for young spectators, in Lvov. Years later, these fantasies began to be embodied in the works of the young director Viktyuk. Roman Viktyuk's performances always arouse great interest of the audience. The geography of audience sympathy is very wide. It unites Moscow, Kiev, Petersburg, cities of Italy and America. For the boundless theater of Roman Viktyuk, geographic space does not matter.

The Roman Viktyuk Theater received its permanent building in 1996. A dot appeared on the map of Moscow - a specific address: Stromynka Street, 6. The building that the theater received is an architectural monument in the style of late constructivism. The theater was awarded the status of the State Institution of Culture under the Committee for Culture of Moscow. For a long period of time, the theater building has been reconstructed.

The theater's performances take place on a variety of stage venues in Moscow and other cities. The theater is actively touring. One of the most famous performances of the “Servants” theater is already in the second (2006) author's edition.
