Description of the attraction
The Merseyside Maritime Museum, located in Liverpool, tells the history of the city as the most important and largest seaport not only in Great Britain, but also in Europe.
The museum was opened in 1980 and is housed in the historic buildings of the Albert Dock, a former warehouse that is now protected by the state as an architectural monument and is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
The exposition in the basement hall is devoted to smuggling and the fight against it, what smugglers come up with cunningly and how these tricks are solved by customs officers. Another hall on this floor is dedicated to emigrants who, in search of a better life, floated away from the port of Liverpool in thousands.
The first floor tells about the history of the port of Liverpool - one of the largest ports in the world, about its history, development and today.
A separate exhibition is dedicated to the most famous ships attributed to the Liverpool sweat: the Titanic, the Lusitania and the Empress of Ireland.
The museum has a separate room where artworks - paintings, etc. - dedicated to the sea and marine life are exhibited.
For the smallest visitors of the museum, there is a playroom called "Sea Pranksters".
