Description of the attraction

Teatro Communale is located in Piazza Cavour, the cultural center of Rimini. The theater was opened in 1857 with the production of Giuseppe Verdi's opera "Harold". During the Second World War, the building was badly damaged. Only its façade has survived.

In front of the theater, on the square, there is a monument to Pope Paul V, erected here at the beginning of the 17th century. And next to it there is an even older fountain (1543) "Lump" in the form of three concentric ledges topped with a marble cone.

The Arengo Palace was built at the very beginning of the 13th century during the reign of Modio de Carbonese. From time immemorial, the palace was considered a symbol of the free city-commune and now it houses the city administration. During its long life, the palace was rebuilt several times, but in 1926 the architect Gaspare Rastrelli returned the building to its original appearance.

The brick façade of the building is decorated with dovetail machicules. The main room of the palace - Hall del Arengo is decorated with a fresco "The Last Judgment" of the 14th century by an artist from the school of Giotto. Carlo Goldoni proposed to use the palace as a theater stage and for two centuries plays based on the plays of the famous playwright took place here.

Next to the Palazzo del Arengo is the Palazzo del Podesta, built in the 1330s. Pointed arches and five small windows adorn the façade of the palace. And the forked mashiculi teeth not only decorate the building, but are also necessary in defense, turning an elegant palazzo into an impregnable fortress.
